Why don't you have a mechanic check the charge of refrigerant gas in the system?

There is a good chance that you have a leak and that the low pressure switch will not turn the compressor on. I jumper the switch to see if the electic clutch engages. If you have a leak you need to find it, evacuate the system and fill it with the right about of freon.

the most logical reason is the freon is low and the low pressure switch has cut the compressor off so it won't burn the compressor up it probobly just needs to be charged.
