This is SO common. Honestly! My sister gets this every time she has a smear. Everyone I know has had this at least once. Please don't worry.
Smears come back as 'all clear', 'problem here' and 'borderline'. Borderline just means 'hmm, perhaps, maybe, possibly might be worth looking again in a few months. Probably just a shadow or mark on the print though'.
If there was ANY sign of even vaguely cancer type cells you wouldn't get a borderline result. You'd have had a phone call asking you to go straight into the GP. They lazer out any cells that look even slighty dodgy so quickly now, it's often even done by the nurse or GP.
There is nothing wrong with you at the moment, but we all have the potential for something to go wrong in the future. You're lucky you've got a great healthcare system that's spotted potentially, maybe, perhaps there might be a problem in the future so they're keeping an eye on you to catch it early IF it ever strikes.
Rest easy knowing your doctor is looking after you, so that's one less thing to worry about x

You do seem to be having problems with this don't you! Think I answered one of your previous questions about this and thought you had sorted it out. Firstly I find it hard to believe that some doctors receptionist would be discussing personal info about you over the phone surely this for your doctor to discuss with you.Cancer cells can only be actually found by having a colposcopy which removes cervical tissue for further analysis. A smear only removes surface cells but will not tell you immediately if there is a presence of any cancer only further invesigation would do this. I am now recovering from CIN2 which I had the treatment under general anaesthetic only yesterday, If your doctor was worried they would have had you in by now. Please stop worrying. In answer to some of the other answers that I feel I want to address... smears are only done yearly if you've already had abnormal cells otherwise once every 3 to 5 years...I now have to have one every 6 months also they don't use laser treatment as much now it's called loop biopsy, or lletz treatment using an electrical current to get rid of the cells, I really hope this does not freak you out much but it's best to know whats involved and just want to pass on to you as much as i've had to learn to better understand the condition and treatment

Whoa!! You need to understand what is going on... I know what I know because I've had several abnormal pap smears. Eventually I got cancer. I was only 19 and a mother of two. When you have an abnormal Pap Smear that means you have been diagnosed with cervical displaysia. That means your new cells are growing at an uncontrollable rate. When cervical cells grow so fast the cells are growing out past the cervix that is when it is cancer. Make an appointment with you doctor to discuss whats going on. From there you doctor will most likely do a biopsy. The treatments for dyplasia are just like the treatments for cervical cancer. I'm 20 and my cancer seems to be gone. My fertility is intact.

You need to have your check up which should have occurred at 6 weeks. As a sexually active female you should be going for a smear at least once a year. What the doctor means is that you should be coming to have an examination to prevent not that there is anything wrong. You should not stress. If your last smear was in 2004 then you are definitely due for another. They are not as bad as your brain tells you!!!!

I have a 4 month old and cramped for awhile after. The smear test could be anything, infection or just an abnormal one. If you can't get a straight answer out of your OB you might want to think about switching!

i'm in Scotland too and have had 2 smear exams the two got here back ok - I continuously save up thus far with them, in spite of in case you do leave your dignity on the door yet they are so well worth it interior the long-term. I do think of the age could be diminished in England to the comparable as Scotland, Jade Goody has introduced cervical maximum cancers into the regularly used public eye and made females extra conscious of what can take place in case you do no longer choose for cervical smears. it somewhat is totally unhappy that Jade died so youthful and left 2 eye-catching boys at the back of devoid of their mom yet she has carried out lots for females bearing directly to this each and every so often taboo subject, using fact as you suggested certainly each and every physique thinks "it is going to on no account take place to me". xxx

The pains are probably just in the head. Don't worry about it they just want to make sure that you're fine. It's a good job though, what if they couldn't be asked to check you up?
