i have never figured that one out. i seen a couple of guys running around on new 650cc scooters. they could have bought a real bike for that money, i guess some people just like riding with there legs closed together. cant think of any other reason they would buy a scoot.

I have both. I own a H-D SuperGlide. I also own a E-Ton scooter. They are light years apart in terms of usage. I go on a beer run to the local store on the scooter. I go on a "run" on the Harley. The scooter averages 90 to 95 mpg, the Harley, about 55 to 60 mpg. To take the HD on a 6 mile round trip to the store will do no good for the bike. The fluids will not approach the peak level of performance and protection as designed, whereas the scooter has only two fluids, fuel and 2 cycle oil and is ready to go in a heartbeat. Other factors come into play such as the strain on the bikes battery and charging system when the bike is used for short jaunts. My insurance rate on the HD is 3 times that of the scooter. Bottom line for me is that I enjoy both vehicles for entirely different reasons.

the older population who are retired are buying scooter at a faster rate than ever and scootering around to their friends house in florida or retirement villages. scooter are much cheeper and there are over 30 brands out, mostly from china for less than $2000. insurance is cheap and with gas prices you can fill up for $12.00 and run for ever, almost. some scooters get over 100 miles to the gallon

Scooters are cheaper and easier to ride. A motorcycle is more complicated to ride and you really should take a Motorcycle safety course and a special motorcycle license. Scooters do not require (or need) this. Actually you drive a motorcycle and ride a scooter.

people prefer scooters because its the new thing out and people likes 2 be up to date, oh and the that its looks cool. its also a lesser chance of getting a flat. it also cost less than a car. but maybe its a phase maybe its not,i don't know, but that's why they prefer them.
