Ray can be used as a noun (ray of sunlight).
Art is a noun, too. Candy is a noun for a sweet treat or a verb as in the action of turning something into a sweet treat. Frank, Josh, Lee, Merry, Peter, Sandy, Windy, Bonnie can all be used in grammar WITHOUT being a proper name.
