If I love someone, I know the feeling is fully reciprocated and the only obstacle to our being deliriously happy together is time, then I most certainly will wait for him even if it takes years. If he is going to make me feel complete, I am not going to settle for anything less. You see, Jaded, I am a hopeless romantic and acts like these only serve to make the final outcome, our being together, that much precious and sweeter. Would you not do the same?
I realise not many among us would wait. Loneliness, distance, lack of physical contact, uncertainty; these are just some of the reasons. But some things, I feel, are just WORTH waiting for!
Different would be the case if I was the only one doing the loving. In this scenario, it is pretty clear cut what needs to be done. I have self-respect and would not wait around hoping the guy would one day realise that he needed me.
In reference to your follow-up query, yes, humans are capable of such acts because love can be quite a powerful motivation.

Difficult question.
Love is a decision we make, sometimes on a moment to moment basis. It's very difficult to make the decision to continue to love someone who has been absent for an extended period, and all but impossible for some people. Having a large store of shared experiences helps, as does having many things in common ( especially children ).
IMHO, the best thing two people who love each other can do is temporarily suspend the "exclusivity" rule when they know they're going to be parted for a long time. This can be a true test of their comittment to each other. If both decide that the other is someone to whom they want to be comitted for the forseeable future, then the chances their relationship is sound are high. If one or both decide that a more "open" relationship is acceptable, then the jury is still out on anything long term.
I have seen outcomes both ways: some relationships suffer from extended absence, some thrive. And predictions are almost impossible.

If you love someone you will wait for them if you want to be with them for the rest of your life. Now if you are talking sex, that is another story. Men are not capable of waiting, while women are more inclined to wait.

i would like to say that yes i would wait forever to be with someone i really loved. that being said, i think it depends on how long the wait is, why i'm having to wait, and how much contact i could have with that person.

YES, as I have said in previous questions... my husband and I dated from the age of 13... After school he didn't want to get married... so I waited.... After his first job he didn't want to get married.. so I waited.... He decided to go study... and I waited... He finished studying and could not decide if I was needed in his life... so I left... we are married now. I could not have asked for a better husband. He definitely appreciates that I have stood by him in good and bad times. ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT...

yes, true love is not always easy to find- i will wait for 100 years...rather wait and love, then to take the chance of loosing the person.....but then both must be committed and there has to be guarantees...!

yap. thats love though, you never give up, but there may also come a time when you realise that maybe that person just wasnt made for you and you must let them go. it'll hurt, but sometimes it must be done...
