Yes the repair/maintenance man cut the little shed-dings off of one of the hoses when he shortened it, check/look and see if that seems right to you; or Silverfish.

Probably silverfish. Insects that moult their skin. That's probably the silvery looking stuff behind your washer. They like warm places.
