Israel is the world whipping boy. They are blamed for everything due to ideological and religious reasons.

I feel bad for Israel and the appreciate their fighting spirit. They should defend themselves. Ironically they are the beacon of freedom in a region on intolerance.

Truly, Israel would dearly want to be left alone. Yet how can a country, surrounded by hostile or neutral (no allied) countries, be at peace?

The previous site shows you just how perilous the situation in Israel is. To this day, the borders of Israel remain uncertain.

And while I mostly agree that Israel has been generally on the defensive, there are just some exeptions:

*In 1967 Israeli aircraft attacked the USS Liberty, killing 34 American servicemen

*In 1982, Israel launched an attack against Lebanon

*On July 7, 1981, the Israeli Air Force bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osiraq

The Israelis, though generally peace-loving people, have been waged war upon by other countries including Egypt, Iraq, and more recently, Lebannon.

In June 1967, Arab forces amassed troups along the Isreali borders. What followed was called the Six-day war, where Israeli troops defeated (almost successively) Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The result of the Six-day war was that Israel had their territories increased 50%. Give you a clue yet?

The Yom Kippur War began on October 6, 1973 (the Jewish Day of Atonement) when the Syrian and Egyptian armies launched a simultaneous attack on Israel and inflicted a short lived defeat on the surprised Israeli Defence Force (IDF). After the first 24-48 hours the war's momentum shifted to Israel and within three weeks the invaders were pushed back, the land was recaptured and a UN peacekeeping force was put in place.

In 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait, triggering the Gulf War between Iraq and a large allied force, led by the United States. Iraq, seeking to inflame Arab public opinion and draw Arab states out of the alliance (and possibly to Iraq's side), attacked Israel with 39 Scud missiles.

All this shows that while Israel has not been hostile, other countries around it are. Yet they have been thwarted time and again by the resourceful Israel people. Their reactions to this would, then, be obvious.

Countries around it see Israel as an upstart, to be tamed.

Add that to the fact that Israel is surrounded by Arab countries. yet, Israel is an ally of the US, which offends Arabs. In fact, Israel even accepted US aid instead of reacting to Iraq's provocation in 1990.

I don't think most of the world is against Israel. In fact many countries seem afraid to stand up and say that what Israel is doing is WRONG. Of course both sides are wrong but as long as they're insisting that they are right and the other side are in the wrong nothing is ever going to get resolved. Neither side is being honest! I remember the journalists who went to the region. The Israelis knew they were journalists and were supposed to co-operate with them in their reportage (one of the journalists had even been injured) but the Israeli soldiers shot him just the same.
I think the problem for Israel (and America!) is that the Jews have been persecuted for so long. (WW11 is an example of that.) that they have become so paranoid that they can't see that they are doing to others what has been done to them in the past ie persecuting them. If either side would be honest and stop killing the other, then the war would end, but they would rather die than admit to any wrongdoing. How insane is that???

Mastinox,

That is a very naive statement.
If Israel just wanted to be left
alone, much of what is going
on in the Middle East would
not be happening.

Israel does not want advancement
of any kind for anyone but themselves.
Check up on you history and
see all the damage and death
they have caused.

Shalom

P.S. It not that the world hates
Israel. We are tired of seeing them
cause so many problems and get
away with it, over and over again,
and with our taxpayers money.

you are too innocent. non of israeli actions are defensive , all are offensive , the one you think is defensive , are designed by people like sharon and bush and make you think like that.
israel is world most dangerous military power .
Will israel allow any body to inspect its chemical/biological / atomic and other weapons of world destruction/can any body dare .
please note that israel will never get peace by the way they do.
Bring peace loving leaders and try to be good neighbours , and not be used by the america, one day you will be left like the us did with Taiwan, soon it is going to leave japan and s. korea to the north korea and china , it is better to have good / friendly relations with the nearers if one has no prejudice , you cant vanish the arab and vice versa
or ask Jade.
hate for those who hate israel , but be sure that israel is commiting human crimes and this is because of the govt , making the people afraid , they , the arabs are going to kill all of you, ask your govt to be friendly , sympathetic and co operative with the neighbourors and see the result , dont the israeli consider the arabs as animals , that is why I say you are too innocent

In part because the world doesn't like winners.

In that particular region because there are a large number of backwards countries that envy and fear Israel.

Most countries don't hate Israel. It is mostly due to the PALESTINIAN land which some believe they appropriated. However, it seems that to many, it is the US association which makes them hard to accept.
