I've been doing that since I was a baby, I'm f****kin' 24 now, and I still have this baby habit. I've tried everything, the most expensive No-Bite nail polish and mom's home-made recipes, but nothing helps. HELP!!!

There is a great product that I used a long time ago. It is like a top coat, made by Sally Hansen. It is called Nail Biter. It applies on clear, dries super fast and tastes horrible! It's not a nail polish. It works wonders and it's not that expensive. Use it and you will no longer bite your nails. You can find it at your nearest Wal-Mart or Drug store. I tried other products and nothing helped.

Ha! Good question. I bit my nails for 36 years and finally quit this year. How? My teeth were so worn I had to have all the front ones capped and they were no longer able to bite my nails satisfactorily! It was a forced stop, but since then, due to my dentist being cr*p, a lot of the caps have come off but because my nails look so much better now I've resisted biting. So, a bit of outside help and some willpower. It's so nice being able to put nail varnish on and polish them that I'm going to carry on not biting!

DON'T put false nails over them. I tried that and it messed them up big-time. I wouldn't even do that now as I've seen the messes my friends have got into. Your nails rot and all sorts of icky stuff.

Good Luck!

I've never bitten my nails but I think I would go to a salon and have some really great false nails put on, then every time you go to bite them you would remember how much they cost you and how great they look!!! A habit is only a 'circle ' of nerves which make you act in a certain way so once you've broken the circle a few times you will be able to change.

- Try to replace your bad habit with a healthier one. When you find your hands traveling towards your mouth, stop yourself and pop in a lollipop, or better yet a raw carrot, instead. It will take some serious, conscious effort on your part to replace your bad habit, but you can do it if you really want to.

- If you don’t even realize you’re chewing on your nails, try wearing a rubber band on your wrist and giving it a little pop every time you find your fingers in your mouth. That will help bring your consciousness to your problem so that you can learn how to stop biting your nails.

- Make your hands look as pretty as possible so that you don’t want to mess them up. Splurge on a salon manicure so you get some pampering and care lavished on your poor, bitten nails. It only takes about a week or so to start seeing some growth and once you see some progress, you’ll be less likely to want to bite.

Good luck gal... =)

This may sound strange but if you catch your self biting your nails slap yourself on your leg always in the same place or poke your leg with something just hard enough for it to hurt a little. The brains automatic responses to pain will relate the pain in your leg to the reflex action and you will soon stop you biting although you may have a sore leg for a few days.

Have you tried wearing thimbles or gloves? What kind of situations do you bite your nails? Is it boredom or anxiety? You need to form a new habit to replace this old bad habit, maybe even something as simple as putting your hands in your pocket.

Dog poo? You certainly don't want to put that in your mouth! Might create a few practical problems though - leave smudges all over / limits the use of your hands.

I'm 26 and chew mine down to the knuckle, so my advice probably isn't worth much, but try leaving them one-at-a-time. That's the only way i ever get close to growing them. Start with one pinkie finger or both if you're really determined (three if you live near a nuclear plant) and see how you get on.
Good luck.

Have you tried getting false nails on top of your own, so that you can't bite them? Personally I hate false nails, but I'd have them if it meant I could have real nails of my own in a few weeks time. Then it's just down to will power I'm afraid! Good luck!

Was in exactly the same boat!

I tried everything and nothing worked, until...................
I had a set of acrylic extensions done, quite short and the technician was fantastic, very considerate of my poor abused nails!!
Having the acrylics meant I couldn't bite my nails, even if i'd wanted to.
After 2 weeks my nails had reached the tip of my finger and were looking pretty decent.
Try it, it worked for me. x
