Just handling it once wont make you sick or kill you. If you handle it all the time though it could make you very sick. You should have nothing to worry about.

Truth is, mercury, in it's elemental form like you touched is not very harmful. It's when mercury has reacted with other chemicals that make it bio-soluble, that mercury is very harmful in small quantities. Wash your hands (or whatever) well and don't worry to much about it.
If you start feeling weird, or sick, or anything, go to the doctor regardless of what any of us say.

Are you from Sarasota Florida? because they just shut down an entire school because some kid brought in mercury. I think the kids had to be decontaminated or at least examined and observed for symptoms. You should call poison control or your doctor.

if it was a modern thermometer it wouldnt of been mercury, if it was then it depends on the amout, if substancial amount is contacted with skin then yes you will get some degree of poisining. Dont go and die now

Mercury can be absorbed through the skin so it is possible that you may have been poisoned.

Call your poison control hot line and let them know what has happened and they will tell you all the necessary steps to do to insure that you will remain healthy. I hope this helped you.

I'm old enough to remember handling it in high-school chemistry class, but I think it does contaminate the handler - though I'm not aware of ever having had any symptoms myself.

it all depends on your reflex thankyou.the more alert you are i.e if you react quickly by washing he affected areas the consequences may be limited but if not then all i can do is have some pitty for you haha!
