The developing countries or the so-called third world depend on the direct or indirect development aid. The negative side of such aid is however, the donors trying to impose their own views in the economical and political activities of the countries they donate. They usually think that their strategies would develop those countries. The effect is totally contrary. Such countries develop conspiracy and corruption instead and devide themselves into different opinions which might afterwords develop in to civil war.
I would say that those countries should be left alone to set their own development strategies relevant to their community and environment and based on their priorities and objectives and they should be encouraged for such.
"We will not help you unless you follow what we tell you " should not be the norm, or aids should not be used as dividing instrument to disintigret a community.

Only take funds for targeted projects, and make sure they get done efficiently and effectively.

Clearly, to take money for a natl government comes with strings attached, but it is not out of the ordinary for a lender to have certain requirements. Loans from the IMF, for instance, only come with fiscal constraints, not social or political ones.

You also seem to assume that corruption does not already exist in these countries, which is incorrect. It does not take a WTO loan to cause corruption. Many third world countries do not have effective systems of government and law enforcement in place - I don't know why you think handing them money would somehow make things better.

I also don't know why you would expect someone to give them money with no expectations. The only way to completely avoid the restrictions of debt is to not take any out. This, however, is not an option as many countries either don't advance or spiral downwards (such as most of Africa) when left to their own devices.

So the options are to abide by the restrictions placed on you by taking debt, or try to build an economy organically from nothing.

If they would only listen to what developed countries tell them, they might end up being developed themselves. We really do know what's best for them -- that's why we're wealthy and they aren't.

If they want our money they need to listen. It is that simple.

If they could do it themselves I would say OK, but this is obviously not the case. If we stay out of it corruption takes over. More oversight is need when international funds are coming in.

But if nation's don't want it they don't have to take it.
