Its a sin as you fantasize over sex and glorify it. In most case you will be imagining sexual scenes or just thinking about sex with a particular person. Sex is s a gift for God to His glory and with your legitimate spouse and not with anything real or imagined!

No, I think it is a safe way to feel pleasure without risking sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancy. It certainly is a far cry from Commandment breaking fornication too.
