We got our bed from IKEA when they were having a 20% off bedframe sale - the reduction made quite a difference to the price! One thing to remember, though, spend as much as you can on the mattress - your back will thank you for it in the future!

For the actual bed frame the cheapest place will be Ikea. I think they do a double frame bed frame for just under £50, which is really modern and doesnt look cheap. The matress is likely to be more expensive, but I would suggest somewhere like Argos, or keep an eye out for sales or special offers in retail park bed stores.

Well if you are based in London try www.gumtree.com. It's mainly an antipodean site and you may get a relatively new double bed for free! Most of the people are moving away after being here for 2 years and are giving them away

In the uk, many areeas now have a homeowners online re-cycling scheme. Anything no longer wanted is offered free of charge to the collector. I have ooften seen beds aof all kinds offered or wanted here. See if you have a scheme.
Google search "your town name_freecycle" see what it comes up with

We have a local Hospice shop that sells really cheap beds and they all come with fire certificates etc. so they are not minging. Usually they charge about £35 - £45 we bought one and it's perfect.
