Most telemarketers are just people trying to earn a living. It's an easy job to get, they take anybody, but it's a rough gig to stay with because most of the time the public really hates you. I listen to their pitch and then politely decline. The company may be Evil Incarnate, but the guy on the phone is just trying to get a paycheck.

Evil, and they mostly are lawbreakers. It's also terribly wrong to buy anything from a telemarketer: do not EVER do that.
If we knew who they were, they wouldn't last long. I think that a bounty system probably is the best way to deal with the problem. Everyone who hates telemarketers makes a small Paypal donation at some website, and then people who can verify that they've destroyed a telemarketer's ability to harass people (either by disabling the telemarketer's equipment or by physical harm directly to the telemarketer) gets a small reward from that pot of money.
It's not enough to just hang up on them, because then they retain the legal right to continue to harass you. You have to tell them to put you on their no-call lists. It's best if you also keep records about who called you, and who you told to stop calling you, because they will just ignore the no-call request, and when they do you need to turn them in. Just hanging up on them is just going to guarantee that they keep harassing people.

Other than disembowling them in front of family & friends? Actually telemarketing does provide employment for a lot of marginal types who would otherwise be digging through garbage cans. But they are annoying - - - who actually believes this approach to salses works? Augh. What are the worse are these Mortgage Brokers who use an automated service to annoy the c r a p out of people - - - they should be tortured before disembowling. Peace.

I've done it - some companies are OK they way they go about business, but some have no data protection, and are using nothing better than the phone book, in the case of some home improvement companies. However, I DO hate having to deal with India - I know they've got to work like everyone else - but what right has such-and-such a company got in forwarding my personal info overseas?

Just yesterday I got phoned up. The woman was silent for the first 10 seconds and then said "Is this Mrs k. .............. ?" I said yes, She said she was calling from the wise women society or something and started talking about cream. I managed to butt in and told I was busy cooking. She replied "Oh, no problems, is there another time I can call you?"
"ermmmmmm ............. never" I replied than hung the phone up.

Very Rude, When you tell them to donate your winnings of prizes to charity of their choice, they will immediately slam down the phone.
