Ive been using snuff for about a year now, but im not sure im doing it correctly. I dont have a snuff box or anything. Do you just inhale it, like in a little line. Or should i pad the inside of my nostrals with it and inhale.

There is no art to taking a pinch of nasal snuff in the correct manner and no trouble-some practise is necessary. Those who want to really enjoy this pleasure begin first with small pinches of nasal snuff no larger than the head of a drawing pin. In the course of time the nasal snuff-taker will then take pinches of about 0,1g. On the other hand Schmalzler snuff-takers generally take pinches of nasal snuff somewhere between 0.2 and 0.5g . However, it must be said quite clearly that the size of the pinch of nasal snuff is not relevant for the extent of pleasure it gives.
An appropriate quantity of snuff or Schmalzler is taken out of the box and the pinch of nasal snuff is placed on the back of the hand or between two finger tips and inhaled gently through the nostrily. The nasal snuff tobacco is only to be drawn into the nasal cavity. Avoid strong sniffing. Sniff as if you are smelling a flower or enjoying the bouquet of an exquisite old wine.
You will experience the refreshing and stimulating effect of the nasal snuff tobacco immediately after taking a pinch. After three to four minutes the moisturizing of the nose will be stimulated - a thoroughly desirable effect of good nasal snuff tobacco. If this causes one to sneeze vigorously this is a harmless side effect of nasal snuff enjoyment.
A good nasal snuff tobacco should be moist and mild. First the fragnance is released in the nose and stimulates the cilium. The alkaline in the pinch of nasal snuff stimulates the excretion of the mucos from the nasal snuff membrane or, in other words one has to sneeze. This is also why dried out nasal snuff tobacco is not to be recommended. There is a certain pungency because the dry and thus hard tobacco grain causes the nose to itch.

Falco is correct, just take a pinch and put it to your nose and sniff really hard and fast. Where I live, a lot of old timers (mostly women) actually used it like dip, they would pull their bottom lip out and pack it full. I haven't seen it in a while but Garrett snuff used to come in some cool cups.

Only ever seen it done by one person. They used to pick up a "pinch" of the snuff, raise it to their nostril and sniff powerfully to get the stuff into their system.

Most of the time people just take a tiny pinch, put it on their knuckle, and snort it in. From a pile, not a line.

don't dip that s***!!!!!! it's nasty and just plain sick. you sniff it - omg- its gross. and gives you horrible breath. (gag) DON'T DO IT!! if you want to dip go back to skoal at least that's a real chew.
