George Martin!
Without him the beatles would have never sounded the way they did! When you listen to early Beatles and remind yourself (if you didn't already know) that all that stuff was recorded on just 4 track it's amazing. He also came up with some other great recording inavations, listen to Help and notice how the backing vocal comes before the main vocal. He was the Jim Steinman/Bob rock of the 50' n 60's. I'm lead to believe he also came up with the idea of linking 2, 4 track recorders together to get 8 tracks (if anyone knows different please telll me!)
When you think most artist to day work with a minimun of 48 tracks and still sound ****...............he was a god and deffinatley if not the 5th Beatle as Pete Best is known to be, then the 6th. (I Should point out it was at Matins request that Pete Best be replaced in the first place! lol)
He worked his magic on all but one Beatle album 'Let It Be' (originaly to be called 'Get Back' and which was originaly recorded before the Abbey Road album) which was re jigged by Phil Spector

They were ARTISTS so not one of them can be judged to be the "best" It's a meaningless term when discussing art. The sum was much greater than each of its parts.
It's hard nowadays to understand just how huge a phenomenon they were.
Personally I have always thought however that McCartney is EVIL. There is just something about him. I mean, why did he feel he had to buy up the copyright to the works of Buddy Holly? ..or try to change the song credits so they read "McCartney-Lennon: ...?
And what about the theory that they're dying in "reverse order", i.e., the "only the good die young" theory ???

It's a toss up between John and Paul. Each were truly talented songwriters as well as musicians that could play a variety of instruments. I have a picture of John playing the harmonica and guitar at the same time for the song, "Love me do".

George Harrison and understated and under rated genius, for both his Beatles and Solo work and his devotion to his faith. When he was stabbed at his home a few years back he went into his garden and said Hare Krishna, me personally I'd have said something a bit stronger.

George--- he was a good guitar player, had a sweet voice, and wasn't desperate for attention like the other three.
