Your organization is trying to protect itself from people downloading software. If you're caught trying to bypass it, you could easily get fired. Remember, the computer network doesn't belong to you.

From and administrator point of view I would tell you not to do it. You might not know what you are bringing into the network. Like everyone else said but offcorse there is a solution to bypass everything. You could anywhere or any vpn into a box that is outside that network and copy files trough. I use to do it all the time when I want it to pass files by without been detected. The only thing an administrator can see is the bandwidth you are using not what you are bringing in. Good luck!!!! You might get fire if they check your terminal but other than that they cant see anything.

I know I´ll be SO impopular with this... but consider to talk with your SysAdmin in order to get a special permission to download some types of files. If your intentions are good, I don´t see any reason for the SysAdmin to deny you that access.
