Yes Tiscali Customer Support is atrocious.
While i only occasionally lose connection (like twice a week, average of 5hrs internet use a day), i think it might have something to do with that scabby Sagem modem they give you.
I spent a whole year with them and used a router to connect to the internet and the connection never dropped once.
But going back to their weapons-grade horseshit Customer Support - i tried cancelling my connection the other month.
For a whole week i tried calling the cancellation line about 4 times a day at different times, but kept being put on hold, which was incredibly frustrating.
I then went onto their website and emailed customer support asking them to cancel my connection, but no reply.
A week later, i then sent them a letter to their head office in horrible Milton Keynes. A week and a half later still no reply.
I couldnt beleive how unprofessional the c*nts were.
So i did what i should of done a month before - i simply logged onto online banking and cancelled the direct debit.... And a week later, only THEN did the incompetant twats contact me to "thank me" for my time with them and to inform me that my connection had been cancelled.
F*ckin useless - are they going down the pan or something? Cos they are acting like a company who is hanging on by their goddamn fingernails...
PS
Cancelling a Direct Debit with Tiscali is very UNLIKELY to lead to legal action. It would simply take up too much time and money and basically just not be worth it. Their time would be better spend finding new customers, not chasing old ones for £50 odd quid. They will think just as rationally as you or i, hence the above..
PLUS tiscali would have to PROVE that the service they offered was faultless. If you argued that customer support was awful and you kept losing your connection, Tiscali would have to prove otherwise, which is pretty much impossible. Unless in the small print, Tiscali said that connection-drops were likely, this would be a LEGALLY just reason to cancel your connection, claiming BREACH of contract.

You get what you pay for. Not sure how much Tiscali are charging for their service but a lot of cheap companies have absolute cr4ppy customer services and tech help.
Sometimes it pays to go with a more expensive company.
Do virus check your system just incase that is what is causing the problem. I presume you have a firewall installed?
Cancelling a direct debit even though you are not happy with the service means you are breaching your contract and could be liable to legal action.

I keep having that problem. It became so bad that i couldn't stay on the internet for more than 20 minutes which is no good to me.
I complained to Tiscali who basically told me "Sorry don't know why!!!!"
So I cancelled my direct debit with my bank and informed Tiscali about the lack of service i was getting from them. Still waiting for a response from Tiscali.
So far its' been 4 months now.
