There are different types of love. You don't feel the same way for a lover as you do for a parent or child. You would protect them both but the feelings are different. The same as you can love a friend differently again. Companionate love etc. I have also felt strongly in the past that I love someone but don't like them much so it all depends on the situation.

If ur loved one is crying and u feel like relaxing them - Its frendship and caring.
If u urself get tears in ur eyes - Its love!
