Mercury is a deadly poison. If not handeld properly it can cause birth defects, cancer, brain damages, nervous system problems, etc. Mercury mainly affect the nervous system, breakind down important dendrites and axons. If you are exposed to mercury for long periods of time your teeth may also fall out. In the gold rush, mercury was used to separate the gold ore from the rock and so miners handled it with their bare hand (without knowing the dangers of it) this exposure often caused them to lose all of their teeth at a very young age.
