I have to go to work at Parir Ris and I may have to live at Tiong Bahru near MRT station.

It will take bout 35 mins.. According to the average time given by the SMRT website..

I used to stay at Pasir Ris and schooling @ Singapore Poly (Buona Vista Station). During Peak Hours it would take about 45 minutes.
However you should consider the waiting time from Pasir RIs Bus Interchange to your work place too.
If no further bus ride would be required. I would place an estimate time of an hour, so you dont need to rush to work and yet still reach work with a couple of minutes to spare.

Usually it is avg 2-3mins per station on East - West line. It should take you around 35 mins.
