I wanted to go to the toilet quite a lot during the first stages of labour, but like you just a trickle. it gets worse though, at the end I was getting up about 5 times a night to go, then it would take me ages to get comfy again and get back to sleep then I would get up again to go to the loo, it was a vicious circle. I used to laugh at people who said that the sleepless nights will begin once the baby arrives!

I'n not a woman, so I can't relate, however I'm halfway through med school so I can give your question a try.
Most if the time, this happens during the last trimester as a result of bladder constriction caused by an expanding uterus. But, frequent urination could be an early sign of pregnancy. During the first eight weeks, the volume of water in a woman's body dramatically increases in order to facilitate the many changes about to occur. This causes your kidneys to function much more than usual. I'd be willing to place a bet that your urine is much less 'colorful' than normal (ie. more water, less solutes), and that you might have noticed some weight gain disproportional to the increased mass of the fetus. This should subside in a few weeks, and may return during the end of your pregnancy. (assuming you're pregnant)
There are a few things that you can do to lessen urination though. Firstly, don't drink lots of water right before bed. You could find yourself waking up several times a night to use the washroom. You can also try consuming salty foods, within reason. The additional salt in the bloodstream causes the kidneys to retain more water, resulting in less urine. It is important to do this in moderation though.
If the urination begins to interfere with your daily living, you can talk with your doctor about a drug called desmopressin. It causes your kidneys to produce less urine, but more concentrated. The use of this drug in pregnant women is still experimental, so don't be surprised if she has other ideas.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy though - I hope all goes well!
I just saw your additional details - I doubt it's diabetes, but your enzyme deficiency doesn't make it any less likely. The two conditions have completely independant causes. Diabetes is a deficiency as well, with a hormone (insulin). If it is diabetes, it could be Type II (adult onset, much less severe than Type 1). Another possibility, if you are pregnant, is a third kind of diabetes called gestational diabetes. It normally starts during pregnancy, and often subsides following delivery. Talk to your doctor soon though. It's unlikely to be serious, but I can tell you right now that they should be able to tell you what's going pretty quick.

Frequent urination is an early sign of pg because at this stage the womb is contained within your pelvic cradle, along with your bladder, the growing womb presses on the bladder creating the feeling of needing to go all the time. At about 12 weeks pregnant the womb grows to large to be contained within the cradle and pops out over the top - this is when your pregenancy begins to show and the pressure is released from the bladder.
My signs of early pregnancy were incredible tenderness in the boob area and not being able to do up my jeans (as early as 6 weeks) - I wasn't really noticibly pg but changes happened early and quickly.

You would only suspect pregnancy if you had missed a period and were going to the toilet more often. If you are still having periods then you might just have a urine infection. Do a pregnancy test or see a GP.

Buy an over the counter pregnancy test kit from the pharmacy. If that is negative, see a doctor quickly, it could be diabetes.

being pg, you will go alot more, but not in large amounts. You should take a test though to be sure. It would be best though, if you seen a doctor. There may be some other cause, either way, at least you will have medical diagnosis.

no it isnt a huge worry i do that all the time yet i am not pregnant, but when i was it happened more often and the further you get along the more you pee cause the baby is pushing on your bladder as it grows.....you can see the baby leaning on your bladder in an ultrasound.
