Nein -- - - No - - - absolutely not, terrorism is a Police Matter not a matter for war. A well informed CIA would have been ready with roving bands of assassins after 9-11 if a Man like Bob Dole had been President. Quiet effective assassination. War chops the legs off the centipede but with a hundred legs, so what - - - terrorism requires lopping off heads - - - again, cannot over emphasize this, quietly efficiently. War Fuels Terrorism.

Terrorism today is not a response to Bush, Cheney or some other Western politician, it is not going to disappear once these leaders are replaced.
Terrorism can be defeated by extreme means, as was done before, it usually called for harassment of the population where terrorist have their support, until this population reaches a collective decision to stop their support of terrorist, this exposes the terrorists that are annihilated very easily
It's not very nice but usually saves more lives

What Bush is doing is right, keeping Bin Laden and his men busy in Afghanistan and Iraq. If US did not go to the war, I bet they will be happily bombing the Americans world wide. I simply do not understand those Americans who oppose Bush policy. These terrorists are not and will not stop their acts until they die, that is why they call it Jihad or Holy War, and the only way out is by death. So those Democrats instead on criticizing the man for safeguarding the life of Americans, work with the man to wipe out the acts of terrorism and the terrorists themselves. For your info, I'm not a Democrat neither a American. I am a Asian living in a Muslim country in Malaysia.

Terrorism CAN be defeated by warfare, but the moral cost is too high.
Why do you think terrorism played almost no role for Saddam Hussein?
If you tried to fight, you were met with genocide.
Bomb a police station, he'd kill every person you ever met.
We cannot allow ourselves to commit such acts. The best we can hope to achieve is to allow terrorist organizations to focus on the middle east and not on the U.S.
Essentially a long drawn out stalemate.

NO,
The only way to stop terrorism ,is to stop the reasons & the motives which created it in the first place,
israel ,is the main reason for terrorism in the world, actually they r the bigest organized terrorist group in the world + the us gov,
the agression of israel against its neigbours, the ongoing killing of civ,Kids & women, and the cruel support of the us to israels terrorism ,makes ppl who suffer this agression or who see it and cant do anything LEGALY to stop it,makes them think of other ways to fight this agression,& since they dont have an organized army to fight the cruelty of israel & us ,so they think of other ways to fight them, and they start thinking how to harm these cruel countries by attacking its interests & ppl anywere they r.
Now if u want to stop that, then stop the reasons which trigered it in the first place,
Stop the israeli agression against the palestinians & the lebanese,
make israel withdraw from all the Arab land they r capturing,
make the us get out of Iraq & Afganistan &
stop threatning others like Iran & syria & south Korea
Only when all that happens ,terrorism will stop cause there will be no reasons for it & everybody will live in PEACE

well terrorism cannot be defeated by warfare nor can it be done by negiotation. Bin Laden did not negiote with us the first time he tried to bomb the world trade center and the second time. There is people that are always going to be against something. Like ELF is against loggers so they go and put spikes in the trees to break the chain saws. or there are people bombing abortion clinics. I just think we need to becareful and try to work together to become a better people.

Terrorism can, and has, been suppressed by unrestricted warfare without regard to civilian casualties. Indeed, in imperial domains, torture and mutilation of resistors was commonplace: amputation of hands (King Leopold's Congo), feet (Spanish rule in South America). "Shock and awe" require even more drastic tactics than the French torture of Algerians. Land would have to be laid waste; perhaps entire populations massacred, and territory repopulated by settlers.
But, a happier note: terror tends to die down, or die out, out of frustration over how little it accomplishes.
Perhaps, as Robert Fisk says in today's Independent (below) Hezbollah is winning the loyalty of Lebanese for its reconstruction efforts; but whether anybody thinks its terror gained much remains to be seen.

All problems came from one root, Israel.
Stop support Israeli. Diplomacy with the Arabs. Give them what they are supposed to have. Then muslim terrorist will stop their actions. Why must they want still war if there is no enemy left to fight?
Warfare will evaporate more jihads, 1 Billions muslims love to be killed in battle "syahid' rather than westerns like to kill just to have live longer.
Note that, muslims countries nearly 100% hold oil power more than western countries have. Think again.

yes it can- but the whole world would have to actively want the terrorists eliminated. The nations who have the terrorist cells would want to obliterate the terrorists from their nation. But the terrorists would probably seek asylum in switzerland.
