As I saw on Richard & Judy yesterday (!), put 3 tablespoons of barcarbonate of soda into a bowl, and splash about 9 drops of essential oils into it - then put it on a high shelf and it will make your house smell lovely. You can also invest in an oil burner and then just add a little water to the bowl on top and add some essential oils to that. Fresh flowers will also offer some short term perfume to a room.

Take an orange and a big handful of whole cloves. Peg he coves into the skin of the orange. Put the finished product in a mess bag or a piece nylon netting, hang up with a pretty ribbon. Simmer on the stove cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and vanilla. Remember to watch so it doesn't simmer dry. In your microwave place a glass bowl with baking soda and vanilla. Run on high for a couple of minutes. This removes cooking smells from microwave. If you do the orange thing don't worry about it rotting. The cloves will preserve it and the orange will just dry out.

I have a little crock pot especially for fragrance, but instead of using purfumes and such I put in cinnamon, cloves, water and vanilla and it smells up the whole house. I got the pot at walmart in the craft section. I have also used fabric softener for clean fresh scent, and around the holidays you can use pumpkin pie spice in water for a wonderful "pie baking" aroma. Almost any spice or flavoring can be used. If you don't want to invest in the crock pot just use the same idea on your stovetop with a regular pot. Bring it to a boil for a quick fragrance, then turn it down on low and allow it to simmer all day. Be sure to add water as needed.

Lots of ways.
Pine Needles
Baking Soda sprinkled on your carpet, leave on overnight, and then vacuum it the next morning. (freshens the vacuum bag too!).
Try Pot Pourri (does that botther you?) ...or aroma candles. (in Vanilla, and other scents you like).
Go to an herbalist and ask them for ideas.
Bay Leaf comes to mind, as does TREATED Eucaliptis LEAVES & Branches (makes a nice arrangement too) The treated (oiled) leaves emit much more fragrance than the fresh ones do...and this is a natural deterant for FLEAS too. I LOVE the fragrance of Eucalpitis.
I KNOW...My mum used to turn a stove burner on till it was RED HOT...then sprinkle FRESH COFFEE GROUNDS on the burner...it would spark & pop...and fill the air with COFFEE! ...and another thing using this will KILL the smell of FISH after cooking it (the fish).
Have fun

My favourite :
Add 2 hand fulls of chopped sea-wormwood (that's that whitish -silvery plant with the strong spicy scent, growing at the seaside) and the peel (without the white part) of 2 or 3 organic grapefruits to 1lb of salt, put into a clear jar, cover and let sit in a sunny window for a week. ..And then just open it, where ever you want fresh air...its also perfect against wasps and midges.

Oh I hate those things they give me a headache !!
If you have a boyfriend or a husband, get him to buy you some beautiful scented flowers every week, I love Lilies myself, the room will smell beautiful, the flowers look lovely and you will enjoy receiving such a nice gift on a regular basis.
If you live alone, then you have to buy your own..

My husband is allergic to all those air fresheners, scented candles, anything scented. If I want a natural air freshener, I put some cinnamon or cloves in the oven on low and it smells as if something is baking and he is not allergic to that.

Get a glass jar. And 5 sticks of cinnamon. Then put the cinnamon in the jar. Burn the cinnamon and ta da. [you can even use more cinnamon if you'd like] just remember to make the cinnamon stop burning when you leave the house!

It may not add ambience to your house as spices or pot pourri would , but half an onion will absorb any smells when left in a room. Perfect for paint fumes etc
