They are operating systems, which are the platforms a computer uses to organize and launch the programs/software that you install on it.
Most PCs (i.e. essentially any computer not made by Macintosh) use Windows. Macintosh obviously uses Mac OS. Linux is a free, open-source program that can be used on PCs; it challenges the Microsoft model by being free (Windows costs money) and also allowing users to suggest modifications to the program to make it run better (that's what "open-source" means). DOS is an old, text-based system with no graphics (unlike Windows) for PCs. Microsoft developed DOS first, then replaced it with Windows as PCs got faster.
