Of course. Some people believe that their purpose in life is ordained by god or controlled by luck, but that's just passing the buck. It's externalizing control of your life to some outside force.
As independent, sovereign beings with free will, we each have the capability to decide what kind of life we want to lead. This is true whether you believe free will was given to us by god or simply a product of our natural evolution as separate individuals. The only true meaning is that which each of us creates, or discovers, for ourselves.

Its absolutely essential. Unless we find the purpose of our life, we cannot be happy. Without a purpose we are like ships in the ocean without a rudder, wandering aimlessly.
This implies that there is a purpose to life and that it is not to wander aimlessly. The next question then is: what is the purpose of life and do we each have our own purpose or is there one purpose for everyone?
The answer to this depends on what is considered to be our life. Some think that the only reality is the physical reality of the body and our physical environment. With that idea, yes, any concocted purpose no matter how idiotic it may appear to someone else, can serve as a purpose. On the other hand, there is the spiritual conception of life that holds we are not the physical body that must die someday, we are eternal spiritual energy. In that conception, our purpose becomes to understand our eternal spiritual identity and the spiritual environment.
So basically there are two broad paths: finding a "purpose" in this world of birth and death, or dedicating yourself to spiritual realization to find out who you really are and what your eternal nature really is.

Yes. But what you do to obtain meaning isn't important. Your purpose in life could be collecting all of the Pokemon cards ever made and as long as it is meaningful to you it works. If you find meaning, then you're finding a reason to live. It's a purpose in life that motivates and encourages. So, yes, it is very important to human beings and without it you might as well not exist. That is why everyone needs to find their own meaningful existence.

Seeking meaning is to ask the question "why" to get some "becauses".
I think that wothout it, human life is not even viable coz we do it all the time and without it we can't do anything attributable to human beings.
For deeper meaning, I recommend you a book:

The search for meaning comes about when you negate the presence. Enjoy and celebrate the present moment with its face value. Being in the presence creats life which you could dance on!!!

We are what we produce. Does the search have any impact on our production (mentally and physically)? If it aligns thing for us better, the search is important. Otherwise, let go, and just live.

yes; however, most people don't go about it in the way that serves his/her best interest. which is perhaps why so many humans are unsatisfied with their lives. an individual really needs to look inside himself/herself to find meaning, instead of looking to the rest of the world...no one could understand an individual more than he/she can...

to satisfy what we all crave to know.... though much often than not, we are lost in midstream... admittedly, we're curious... inherent in each and everyone of us. and to seek it's fulfillment we search for :
"the meaning of what... the meaning of when...
the why's whereforth, who, how...at no end...
the search of truth would never be define...
but always keep abreast, or lest be left behind"
