You have nothing to worry about, it's just a normal process. Here's info about your menstrual cycle, or "period".
Most girls get their periods between 9 and 16 years of age. What happens during my period? During puberty, your ovaries begin to release eggs. If an egg is fertilized by sperm from a man's penis, it will grow inside your uterus and develop into a baby. To prepare for this, a thick layer of tissue and blood cells builds up in your uterus. If the egg does not meet with a sperm, these tissues and cells are not needed by the body. They turn into a blood-like fluid and flow out of the vagina.
The menstrual period is the monthly discharge of this fluid out of the body. When a girl first begins to have her periods, she is able to get pregnant. During your period, you will need to wear some kind of sanitary pad and/or tampon to absorb this fluid and keep it from getting on your clothes. Pads have adhesive strips and are worn inside the panties. Tampons are placed inside the vagina. The decision to use pads or tampons is your choice. Some girls prefer tampons because they do not like the feeling of wetness or the odor that may accompany pads. Some girls prefer pads because they are not comfortable inserting tampons into their vaginas. When using a tampon for the first time, take your time, relax, and insert the tampon slowly into your vagina. This will allow the muscles in your vagina to relax and the tampon to go in easily. Make sure the string remains on the outside of your vagina so that you can remove the tampon.
To avoid infection, change tampons often and do not wear them overnight. Pads are often called "maxi" pads or "mini" pads and can be thick or thin. These are good for when the flow of your period is heaviest. Panty liners, which are very thin, can be used for the end of your period when there is usually very little discharge. Tampons come in different levels of thickness for when your period is heavy or light. Try out different brands and find the ones you like the best. Most periods last from 3 to 7 days.

I'm not really sure what you are wanting to know, but I can give you the info I gave my 3 daughters.
First you need to let your brother know you are having your periods, as he is your guardian, and in case you should have to go to the Dr or hospital he will know.
Secondly if you are sexually active protect yourself, do not leave that up to the guys, we must protect ourselves and insist on their protection too. A young woman can go to her local health department and get the birth control pill and condoms if needed. Abstinence is the best, but some do not chose that route and it is best to be protected than to catch an STD or to experience an unwanted pregnancy.
Thirdly try pads and tampons to see which is best for you, comfort is personal and different for every female.
Lastly contact your mother or other female relatives to find out if there are any problems associated with a period that you should be aware of, an example my granddaughter started her periods about 6 months ago and she experiences very painful periods which is common among women in my family.
Most of all keep a record of your periods when you start how long they last and if you experience pain, vomitting, headaches or other symptoms these could help you when you do go to the dr. Example when one of my daughters started her periods at 11 years old her 3rd period lasted 13 days. She had to be put on birth control pills to regulate her periods, because after the period that lasted 13 days she would go a week and stop a week the go another week. Still 15 years later she has to take the pill just to stay regulated.

So i had my little sister and she talk to me about this girly thing and theres nothing to be ashame of. It is natural as human being. Every body (i mean girl) does it. Why are you afraid? You should learn about period cycle and how to overcome when it is emergency. I only know thay period comes once a month and it last for about 3,4 - 7 day. Longer or shorter the time it come is normal. And it usually not to be exactly monthly sometimes it comes earlier and sometimes later. Thats all i think i know. If you want to know more i can ask my sisiter, if you want.
Send me email if you got another question or more info at gandalfan@operamail.com

on tampons: they can be very uncomfortable at first. they come with directions inside on how to use them, i would suggest reading those before you use them for the first time. even at 25 sometimes i just get the angle wrong and it hurts a little. also, they tend to leave you drier (and that is not a good thing). the whole 8 hours and you get TSP (toxic shock) doesn't really hold stock anymore. i wouldn't suggest leaving them in much longer, but overnight (even if that means 10 hours for you) is fine.
as for your period itself... 28 day cycle, so supposedly you should start your period every 28 days. if you don't, don't worry... you're still very young and they are still getting themselves regular. some people are also never regular every 28 days, but that is really not something to worry about until you've had it for a few years...

it fairly is a considered necessary decision. First, have you ever spoken which includes her about the transformations latest in the non secular theory you both fee? ok, so both of you settle on that love can triumph over any hindrances that take position on your marriage. What non secular practices will any children because of your mating be the priority? in my opinion, i think that once the sexual rigidity is relieved, there'll be unresolvable subject matters. Why do not you 2 basically have sex, and bypass from there.

relax honey!
if you're living with your older brother, he is obviously an adult and is mature enough to be faced with stuff like this. you might not want to ask him to lecture you on how to use a tampon and stuff like that, because he probably won't know all that much, but i'm sure that he'd be more than willing to buy anything you might need when it comes to feminine hygiene.
like one girl already said, american girl's book "the care and keeping of you" explains about periods in depth, and they tell how to decide between pads and tampons, and even how to put in a tampon.
i found this great site that might answer some of your questions!

hope all works out hun! relax!

Congrats on becoming a woman!! Your body will now start to change more into the body of a woman - your breasts will get bigger, may get or get more hair in pubis region, armpits and legs and you will get some curves - puberty.
Honestly there is no better way for me to tell you all of this then the way these sites have it all set up - questions and answers and everything you need to know - you can ever get free samples. Tampax and Kotex seem to have the best sites. I will mention a few things though so you know :o) And try not to be embarrassed - every girl goes through this but your brother would probably be all awkward so the sites below also have 800 numbers that you can call with any questions, ok?
Your period will last for about 5-7 days and you will get it once a month. About a week or so before, you will probably get some sign of Pre Menstrula Syndrome (PMS) though the degree of the symptoms depends on the woman. You may be moody, very emotional ,cry over nothing, hungry, bloated, etc. It is normal to feel soreness in your breasts and to have cramping in your stomach. You may also feel tired, weak, and drained. What fun, right?? :o) Heating pads always help cramps. You also want to avoid caffeine and too much salt as they can make the bloating and cramps worse - stay hydrated and drink as much water as possible. Those things can make symptoms very minimal.
Midol will help these symptoms - you can get it at the drugstore with all the feminine care products. They make a few different ones depending on your symptoms so check the packages and dosage.
You may not want to always use a tampon - sometimes pads are easier starting out and those come with all different absorbancies - light, medium, etc. But - tampons are great - no risk of leaking or showing. And they are easy to put in once you get the hang of it. The packages will come with directions but I put two sites way down at the bottom that explain how to do it. You may need to get a mirror and get to know your body down there - if it hurts or comes out too easy or feels uncomfortable - it is in wrong, so just try it again. They make all different kinds - small, medium, extra, super, etc - so it is good to get a variety box so you have all the ones you may need on hand. I think the middle size is perfect - if it is light, the smallest or lightest are fine. I prefer to use Tampax Pearl with a scent - those are my favorites. Playtex also makes a good one called Gentle Glide. You will see all of the types at the sites below though. That is your preference - you can try them all - call the companies below at the 800# on their site and ask them all to send you free samples and then you will know which one you like best.
It is always a good idea to carry some around with you in your purse or bag because it will and can come when you least expect it - escpecially when you are younger - it will take some time to get a cycle going but eventually it should come at about the same time every month. Keep track on a calendar - write down a little heart when you get it and another when it ends or an "x" - it is always good to know when you think it will be coming and soon you will know because you will feel the PMS symptoms coming too.
If you are sexually active, you should see a gynecologist now to get on some birth control since you can get pregnant now and just know that most STDs show NO physical signs - you cannot see them so the only way to ever know if someone has one is to get tested. There are many STDs that can still be spread EVEN when you use a condom with the guy so that is not even close to 100%. Just figured I would throw that info in - oh yea - also you can get an STD and HIV from oral sex as well as intercourse so just know that and be careful and always take your time - don't rush into that. Oh - also - if you happen to have irregular periods, birth control pills can help regulate it so it is on time every month and some of them like Ortho Tricyclin can also help keep your skin clear - you may break out now around this time as well.
One crucial point - if you leave a tampon in for too long, you can get something called Toxic Shock Syndrome which can kill you - it is rare but it happens so please make sure that you change it every few hours - max of 6 to 8. Overnight is ok but put a new one in before bed and another after you shower in the morning. You may notice a stronger odor at this time of the month and that is normal - just make sure you shower well and you can buy the scented tampons to cover it up if it is bad - it never gets that bad at all and the scented tampons just smell a little like powder - nothing people can smell when they are next to you or anything. I prefer them though - why not? You may also want to wear so not so great panties around that time so you don't ruin any good ones and stay away from light pants until you get sure of using tampons and are comfortable.
Ok - every other question you have will be on these sites and the way to put one in is on the sites at the bottom along with the Midol site so you can check those products out before going to the drugstore - if you don' t have symtoms, you don't need them though. So - call the 800#s, get some free samples, get a variety box of tampons and some back up pads just in case - lightdays, etc - you may not feel like wearing a tampon if you just have some spotting - you may just want to wear a little pad. And if you can call your mom, call her to let her know and ask her any other questions that you have. You can also take IBrofuen and Tylenol for any discomfort - just read the dosage.
Ok - enjoy this time in your life - your body is going to change and you may go through stages where you feel awkward or uncomfortable but just try to be confident - everything will level out soon. Good luck!! :o)
