I am a smoker, and no I am not trying to quit.

There are two different types of laws that prohibit smoking: those that are implemented to protect the health of non-smokers and those that are designed to force a non-smoking lifestyle on smokers like me. I obviously support the former and oppose the latter.

Smoking should not be allowed in the office or in theaters were non-smokers can be exposed to adverse health effects of cigarette smoke. However, municipalities cross the line when they essentially prohibit smoking everywhere. In Milwaukee (where I live) there was recently a proposal to ban smoking indoors in all businesses and also directly outside the entrances and exits to buildings. This is unfair. Such a law is the design people who histrionically act as though they are dying of lung cancer when they get one whiff of cigarette smoke outside on the sidewalk. They have a right to not be exposed to cigarettes constantly in their work or eating spaces (to protect their health), but they do not have a right to never witness smoking or ever smell it at anytime.

As for smoking in bars: a lot of communities have tried to ban it since it has been established that you should not have to be exposed to cigarette smoke in restaurants if you are a non-smoker. However, there is no reason to make all bars smoke-free. Instead, why not have the zoning commission designate half of all bars in each zone for smokers and half smoke-free? That way, non-smokers do not have to be exposed to cigarette smoke if they don't want to, and smokers can still enjoy a cancerstick with their beer, as is tradition. If people tried to be fair instead of trying to "win" the "fight" against people who make different lifestyle choices than them, they would probably make for a more harmonious universe, and have much more success.

Well i smoke.. and i have a sign on my front door.. don't like the smoke then stay out! i had people come to my house and say can you please not smoke.. its like wait a dam minute this is my house! when i go to someones house that does not smoke then i am fine with that.. but when i go to a restaurant i want to smoke after my meal and relax. i do not go to any of the fast food stores anymore or the donut shop because if they can not have a space for me to smoke then they do not need my business. and if i walk in a restaurant without a smoking section i just simply tell them sorry i am going somewhere where i can have my freedom.

Maybe we could install smoking booth? You know, convert those telephone booth that is no longer use. Seal it to and make sure the smoke stays inside the booth so that the smoker receives all the first and secondhand nutritious smoke he/she need. Inside restaurants, chambers large enough for chairs and tables can be installed for the same purpose.

At the same time, can we have a farting/non-farting section or do we need to set up farting booths too?

It pisses me off that I am not allowed to smoke in most places anymore. I also heard that they are trying to out law smoking in your own CAR. Like HELL. First the tell us where we can and where we can't, then they raise the prices on smokes too. I wish they would do the same thing with beer.... God knows lots of people drink too!!!

I am a smoker and I have no problem with laws that make it illegal to smoke in closed spaces. Just because I choose to risk cancer doesn't mean other people should have to.
I can't stand people who smoke around kids or animals, they can't say anything to ask you not to and then they get asthma and cancer.

I am a respectful smoker. But I think we should challenge all drinkers who drive when they leave the bar or club. I'll stop smoking when you stop drinking and driving. At least I'm only killing myself, if you drink and drive, you too are taking a chance of killing yourself, and probably someone else.

I see smoking as natures IQ test, or a kind of natural selection of the fittest.
I'm happy to let smokers have as much tobacco as they want - hell, let's make it free. Natural selection will then result in a smarter human race in no time.

I love a good cigar every now and then, and it really bothers me that I can't smoke in a Pub and enjoy some smoke and scotch.

I think that people should be able to smoke if they choose to do so but also that people should not be forced to inhale the smoke. Let restaurants and other places choose to be smoking or non-smoking.
