They are different formats for image files. They use different compression algorithms, giving different sizes and different amounts of "data loss". I think bmp may not be compressed at all, but I could be wrong about that.

Gif was widely used at one time, then whoever owned the rights to it decided it would not be free any more, and so you see it less now. I think png is supposed to be "better" than jpg, but not all software will deal with it properly yet.

the biggest difference between jpg and gif is that gif can be an animated image u know like those buttons that can change colour etc (but not flash animation). u can make animated gif with imageready software embeded with photoshop.

The differ is in the pixel quality

jpg << has more pixel then any other format so the quality is high also the resolution quality is great so u get better image >>...

gif & bmp <>....
