the driver was 14 years old also. parents refuse to pay bills. there were 3 kids in jeep
so is the people hosting the party liable also since these kids were under age with no license or parents consent to drive on a public hwy.

You really need to Seek legal counsel. I would venture to say that the parents hosting the party and the owner of the vehicle are responsible because, your nephew was in the care of the host of the party and they let him leave the grounds and the person who owned the uninsured jeep is responsible for letting 1st-underage children drive a vehicle and 2nd-for not carrying insurance on the vehicle. See an attorney immediately. If the parents of your nephew have uninsured motorist coverage on your auto policy this will help. My children were in an accident with my babysitter and the babysitter only had 10/20/10 coverage (my child was in the hospital for a month picu,2 surgeries etc) I had limits of 25/50/25 at the time so my uninsured motorists coverage allowed me 25,0000. Since then I have raised my limits to 100/200/100 because so many people today drive without enough coverage and this will afford me more coverage in the event I need it. Good luck.

This sounds like a job for...

.. a lawyer.

Please note I am not a lawyer, though I play one online (and have for ten years now - so I can fake a legal answer pretty well). Don't complain if this isn't dead-on accurate.

The parents were negligent in allowing an underage driver to control the vehicle. If the vehicle left their property, there are criminal considerations as well.

Now, your wording is a little vague, but I'm going to work off both possible readings of your sentence.

If they let their kid drive the Jeep, under normal conditions the kid would be liable, but since he's a minor, it's the parents' fault, assuming that this wasn't due to vehicular collision. (If this was a car-on-car accident, and not, say, car-on-tree, that's another kettle of fish entirely.)

If they let your nephew drive the Jeep, they are negligent and thus liable because they were allowing an unlicensed person, who has no earthly business behind the wheel, to operate a motor vehicle.

The insurance company may just let the couple hang out to dry, since the company may not on the hook for it.

You should contact a lawyer, because s/he can provide a more definitive answer, but in my humble non-legal opinion, it's their damned fault.

OK ur nephew wasnt driving right?? what have the police said about this?? The police have to collect insurance info..

OK here in Fl, the Owner of the vehicle is liable as according to insurance stats.. civilly u may go after the parents as well if in fact they are or are not the same party who owns the vehicle.. But I do not understand why the police have not been able to provide you with the insurance information??

Well the thing is the 14 year old who was driving is at fault. People need to take responsibility for their actions. If that 14 year old who was driving is told 'oh dont worry dear, its not your fault you did nothing wrong' what kind of message will that send out. STOP BLAMING OTHER PEOPLE AND LOOK MORE CLOSLY TO HOME. This is what is wrong with american culture, everyone is so worried about their rights and who they can sue they forget that they have responsibilities. Get a grip and stop blaming others

i would think the driver should be liable. for example when driver is drunk and driving and the passenger gets killed then the driver gets in trouble.
