In all my life I've never known anyone who was chosen to have these things on their tv's to log what is being watched.

I've never met anyone either.
I was approached by AC Nielsen randomly a few years ago to submit via phone line information on everything I bought for the household. They sent me a scanner and I only ever did it once.

Had it at one time! The nielson people just came to the door and asked if i wanted to do it or not. I had to keep a journal of what i watched and for how long! Two weeks later they came and got the journal and the box --and that was it!!
