2 Emerald cut tsavourite ( same green as emerald just harder) bordered with diamonds in platinum with yellow gold underneath.

3. Cushion cut blue sapphire bordered with diamonds set in platinum.

Darling, if you are a purple diva - why not a purple stone?

If you are tired of Amethyst, try Purple Sapphire - they are very durable.

Find a good local artist and work with them for a lovely custom piece - after all, a Diva shouldn't wear something anyone else has!!!

(Oh, and congrats.)

I would steer away from coloured gem stones in an engagement ring. The woman will probably want to wear this for the rest of her life so she won't want the gem stone clashing with the colour of her clothing etc. Fashion at the moment is to have solitary square diamonds set in a platinum ring. This means you can either go with that or get really good prices on round cut diamonds - your call.

Personally I think that if you are going to go with a nontraditional stone then the setting should be utlra traditional so that it's obvious that it's an engagement ring. My engagement ring is a round brilliant cut purple sapphire/ruby set in a prong setting with a bypass. It's the most beautiful ring in the world. I like the first description the best.

If you must go with any coloured stones on your engagement ring, I would say go with your #3 choice. Blue is classy and wouldn't clash with as many other colours.

Diamonds (or even faux diamonds, if you're looking to save money) are the traditional gem for engagement rings for a reason. A diamond looks beautiful set in any tone of gold, silver, or platinum. And you wouldn't have to worry about it looking like costume jewelry (which coloured-gem engagement rings often can, if they aren't made subtly).

As much as I love sapphire for an engagement ring I think a round or princess cut solitaire set in platinum is the best. It has a timeless sophistication to it

Diamonds are a girls best friend.

but the emerald idea is nice,
just make it a rectangle cut, with three small diamonds in a small triangle on each side set in either platnuim, white gold, or silver.
and its perfect!
:D

and i'm sure that she will be happier with the idea of marriage than if the ring is completely perfect. she;ll be in such joy that her mind will make the ring perfect.

I like diamonds the best, because they go with anything and they're for forever (of course). There is however, this beautiful ring on the Tiffany homepage. I'm not saying get it from there because it's probably an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money but you can probably get it made somewhere else for a LOT less.

i would say the sapphire with diamonds. cooler colors work best, so the platinum and blue would look amazing and timeless.
