try using some generic mens shaving cream (something that doesn't cost alot and doesn't have added perfumes to it). Spray the entire spot till you have about an inch of foam, let it sit for a minute. Then take a sponge (any will do) like ones that you use to clean your dishes and get it wet, wring out the excess water, and give the spot you just sprayed with the shaving cream a good rub. Let it set for another minute while you rinse off the sponge, and then wipe off any excess foam from that spot. This method has gotten out ALOT of the spot from my carpet.

I just recently had red wine splashed on my favorite (and expensive) dress shirt. I put some "Tide" on it and rub it but it became blue in color and made it worse. I was going to throw the shirt away but as a last effort, I decided to buy "Oxyclean" from a local Walmart. I made a thick paste with the oxyclean power and some water and I started to rub it on the stain and to my amazement the stain started getting lighter. After a good minute of rubbing I let the paste sit on the shirt for an hour or two and I washed it normally and "TaDa!" The stain was GONE. Maybe you can do the same for your carpet. Put some of the Ox yclean paste on it... give it a good rub, let it sit there for couple hours and complete with a steam vacuum. I say its worth a try to save your carpet. Good luck!
