From the FAQ on the TiVo homepage:
"Is TiVo compatible with HDTV?
TiVo® boxes are designed to support standard definition television broadcasts. They will not support High Definition broadcasts. It is possible to connect your DVR to a High Definition television, and to some High Definition cable boxes or satellite receivers. However, the DVR will only record programs from standard definition channels, and all recordings will be displayed in standard definition. DIRECTV does have a HD DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service available."

See other links for an HD-TiVo buying guide. Also note that DIRECTV is now trying to market an alternative, non-TiVo HD-DVR (recently launched), though it has agreed in a patent settlement with TiVo to continue to support previous TiVo HD-DVRs for the next three years.

There is a high-def TiVo for DirecTV. It is model HR10-250, and is still available (although DirecTV doesn't provide that unit anymore). You can find them on e-bay for $300 to $400. I do not know if there is a "stand-alone" HD TiVo for cable and broadcast at this time.
