I think the Great British public thinks the wars a waste of time but we don't like to leave things unfinished. So we will stick it out.

Americans are hung up on the war in Iraq because we made a mess of it. We didn't go in to satisfy Israel (absolutely absurd) or anyone else. We went in because we truly were looking for weapons of mass destruction which could be used on us. We never found them so the "excuse" was then that we want Iraq to be a democracy. Nonsense. Iraq will NEVER be a democracy because they don't know how nor do they want it. Now we can't get out because of Iran, another terrorist state. If we left Iraq now, Iran would move into Iraq in twenty minutes. Iran wants to be the "numero uno" in the middle east and they will not stop at anything to attain that goal. What a mess!

They found out that war in Iraq is for Israel and the Israeli lobby:
The Israeli government prayed for the attack on Iraq, which has eliminated the strategic threat posed by Iraq. America was pushed into the war by a group of Neo-Conservatives, almost all of them Jews, who had a huge influence on the White House. In the past, some of them had acted as advisers to Binyamin Netanyahuwww.nowarforisrael.com/

I am one of the American's "hung up" about the war in Iraq because my son is over there. He just left last week for this third tour over there. He was injured the first time he went, but they sent him to Germany to recover in a hospital and sent him right back into the war. I thought he was going to come home, but I guess the shrapnel in his legs and feet weren't enough to be sent home. Yes, I am "hung up" over this war. Does my son have to die for a cause neither he nor I believe in? My son-in-law has been over there twice and will he headed back soon.
As for the politicans, I don't trust either side. I vote Independent and not for the party. I can't really say much about Britian, except to say Tony Blair needs to grow a brain and stop taking orders from Bush.

The problem is that there are too many ways to skin a cat. Nobody reckognises that Bush and Congress had to make a decision that had negative as well as positive consequences. When they went in there they were sure that there was weapons of mass destruction. When none was found, it became fodder for every armchair general, and every anti-war protester. I wish people would realise that 15 years ago Saddam Hussein was shooting missiles into Tel Aviv Israel, and used gas to kill hundreds of thousands of Iraq citizens. But the whole issue has become politicized. This has become another Viet Nam which in the long term may do more damage in the U.S. than it did our troops in Viet Nam. Actually what happened in Viet Nam was the big mistake, and now we are paying dearly for it.

War and casualties are acceptable by the public if you are winning, once you appear to be bogged down and can't just drop and run, like the US are in Iraq, patriotic feeling drop and accusations flourish.
Britain wouldn't be any different if it was in a similar situation so don't brag.

Yah, and for some reason, the British Left Wing government is presiding over a country that has a terrible infestation of muslim radicals. The shoe bomber, the subway bombers and those assholes who tried to blow up 10 planes bound for the US all muslim radicals. Say what you will about the US, at least we don't have your problem.

That's like asking "why is the sky blue?" We Americans (especially the ones insistent on clinging to the worthless parties) are always hung up about something, at least since I have been around, and probably will be until something changes and we have something else to take up our time.
