Morneau might not be the MVP on his own team. Mauer is having a great year, a historic year hitting for average by a catcher. Morneau's really good, but there are other 1st basemen who are having good seasons, and Giambi has better numbers across the board. But no other catcher is even close to Mauer, and he deserves credit for handling the Twins' young pitchers.

I agree with the sentiments that Morneau may not be the MVP on his own team. He is certainly putting up impressive numbers, but Michael Cuddyer seems to come through with more big at-bats in must-have situations. Mauer will win the batting title but has been eliminating almost as many baserunners as he advances with his penchant for grounding into double plays. I truly believe the most valuable position on the Twins has been their bullpen. Juan Rincon, Denys Reyes, Pat Neshek, and Joe Nathan have been the glue that's kept everything together for this team.

Because he's not even the best player on his own team?

Johan Santana is the MVP of the Minnesota Twins. Hands down, no questions asked.

So if Santana is the most valuable Twin... how could Morneau be the most valuable player in the american league?

because the whole team is filled with young awesome people. here in rochester we had quite a few glorious years for our team before morneau, liriano, and others were called up.

there's hafner in clevland doing well...

big papi in boston...

manny in boston...

and those two clowns thome and dye in chicago

all having great seasons. morneau is playing great in the field in addition to all his hitting.

he also didn't really have as stellar a 1st half of the season.

I vote for Hafner or Papi....
