"I owe, I owe," as the old saying goes and DO I OWE a lot.

(Students loans and credit cards...what a vicious circle!)

Tell me your story (no REAL personal details please) and maybe I can learn from YOU..

Well, when I was in college, I had a VERY limited income. I made the stupid decision to drive without car insurance! Man, oh man. I was in an accident and ended up having to pay the other person's insurance company like $2,000. On top of that, I had no medical insurance, so my brief hospitalization to check me over for injuries cost like $1200. Thank goodness those debts are now paid off. I sure learned my lesson the hard way!

I am still trying to dig myself out of a very deep financial hole due to very bad cirumstances. Cut up all of your credit cards. At one point I was caught up, I went to my bank(It depends on what type of relationship you have with your bank, I had been dealing with the same bank with many years.) I was brutally honest with them and I got a consolidation loan and paid off all of my credit card debts. Then I cut all the cards up and only had one monthly payment with a lower interest rate. Always stay in touch with your creditors, I know it is hard when they are hasseling you on the phone or via mail, but if you call them back and try and make payment arrangments they are not as hard on you. they hate to be ignored. when speaking with collectors, try and stay calm, don't swear or get upset. I also wrote a standard letter to all of my creditors explaining the financial situation I was in and offering a payment plan. (Always take a photocopy of this letter, make it a standard letter with all of your account numbers on it) Keep a record of when you sent it to them. And most important of all, please don't get depressed about it. It is only money. I got so down, i was afraid to go out. Good luck.
