I think that China has a very good chance of becoming a high tech country. Right now they've invested heavily in these kinds of industries and the fact the Chinese tech companies are starting to compete with more prominent foreign counterparts are really good signs.

Definitely the potential is there, especially with a huge workforce and capital to back everything up. I think I am not the only person to think that China may end up as one of the biggest marketplaces in the coming years.

You are certainly wrong. Remember that around 18th century, China was still the most advanced, wealthiest and strongest empire on earth(it was most advanced empire on earth for quite sometime). However, by 19th century, it gradually decline due to rampant corruptions, a bad emperor, and its foreign policy. It closed its doors to the world, it could no longer control the other countries or see what advances they have made. Sad to say, but I have to say that the government system which has made China the most powerful nation on earth has eventually caused its decline. Mao, despite his faults and so on, led the communist party to victory against the KMT. Today the communist party is doing very well in China, and I respect him for that.

The more the reforms they make the more possibilities they gave to grow in technology. Many people think that China is at the top of its growth. I do not think so. If they release its financial system of public intervention and make a more profound reform in foreign trade I am sure that we will notice that they are just at the beginning of its expansion.

First of all, what's your definition of "high-tech country"? Second, why is it important? Technology is not important in and of itself; it's only important if it helps improve productivity. Finally, if you knew any history at all, you'd know China was messed up way before Mao, and we have Britain and France to thank for that. Read up on Opium Wars...
