First of all, anything you can save is a blessing. You should start by putting yourself on a WRITTEN budget. Track all your expenses. When you see on paper how much money you are spending in various areas, you can find lots of places to save money.

Try reading "The Richest Man in Babylon". It's a great book. They have a formula 70-10-10. 10 percent of your income goes to debt, 10 percent to your "Golden Slaves" (read the book to find out what that means), and 70% to your current bills and entertainment. I personally used this formula. I went from renting with a <500 credit score to owning a home and a 700+ credit score.

You can start saving with a just one dollar or ten dollars or a hundred. It is not the amount. The important thing is to be commited to saving regularly. Make savings as the first expense of everyday and you will soon realise the value and benefits of saving.

No matter what you earn, "pay yourself first." What ever portion of your pay you can afford to set aside, take that out and put it straight to savings. Spread the rest throughout your budget and just be sure to leave some out for incidentals so you don't make it a routine habit to dip into your savings.
