Depends on the industry. I design enterprise software integration solutions (now. In 1990 I was a COBOL programmer) & that IS worse than 1990. Then I felt like I could breeze through work & not worry about the future or layoffs or anything. Now, I try to maintain $25k in savings, just in case I'm out of work for a year or so - my job went out to India 3 times in 7 years. But each time I got a better job.......eventually.
