Yes it's fine as long as the hamster is in a safe place. I had like 12 hamsters at once and my dog got to one of them. They're fun animals, and always play with it alone in a closed up room. Cats are quick!
Get a male, they tend to be less of a pain in the you know what.
I would suggest a cage that doesn't have bars either. It's easier for a cat to get into those (just in case) and the hamsters chew on them, which can attract the cat with the noise.
PS; if you have any questions about hamsters feel free to ask. ALWAYS use aspen bedding!
Goodluck!

I don't think it's a good idea. Hamsters are escape artists. My hamsters would always manage to escape no matter what kind of cage they were in. We'd always find them wandering in different rooms. If we had owned a "killer" cat they would have been eaten. No matter how careful you are I can almost gaurantee that at some point the hamster will escape. I don't think it would be fair to the hamster to put him in a such a dangerous situation.

Just keep the cat and hamster in seperate rooms. Trust me, even if the hamster is in a cage, the cat will get to it, no doubt about it.

I would suggest to get an aquarium with a good ventillated lid. if you have a wire, bar cage, that cats will be taunted even easier. they will be taunted nevertheless.in the aquarium, you will get more stench, but it will be cleaner. get wood chips from aspen, and check for dyes. don't get the cheaper one just cause, it may be worst due to dyes or the smell that can severly affect the rodent. make sure that the aquarium lid is vented, the one i owned was great cause it was wire grate, small. my mice wanted to crawl up the water bottle and escape, so make sure it is a good ,lid.

The cat will be very happy with his new food! Seriously now, I have a similar cat, I would never get his favourite killing toy in the house, even if I could protect it. The cat will be miserable if unable to catch it.

absolutely - but you are going to have to be very careful, make sure you have them completely separated at all times. Obviously there is no room for mistakes or you will be one pet short. I think if you can be responsible then definitely get a Hamster. They are great pets. Good Luck!

I have had hundreds of small pets along with my cats (and several other foster cats). Just be extra cautious, and keep your cat out of the room with the hamster.
