The under side of my lip is split and has been for 2 weeks or more because every morning when I wake up, my mouth is dry and when I open my mouth, it splits open again. Ouch!! Any suggestions of how I can make it heal??

it's on the inside. you can't really put chapstick on the inside of your mouth.

First - drink plenty of water...like 2 glasses with each meal.
It might help to know that your mouth heals very quickly...
after 2 full weeks of non healing...somethings up.
You might want to try a salt water rinse before seeing your dentist.
A tablespoon of salt dissolved into a glass of warm water...
rinse it against the split for about 30 seconds.
Try that before meals, after meals, and after you brush your teeth...
don't swallow it...
it won't kill you if you do - by accident.
...but it doesn't taste good and its a lot of salt...
If it doesn't get better in a couple of days I think you should see your doctor.
there are a lot of meds out there you can use with the salt too...
orajel, blistex, chloraseptic...
but I think salt water is the best start.
good health and good luck

I had a split lip for almost 2 months and it wouldn't heal. Never had it before. I am 49 years old and just moved to Wyoming from Texas. After research, I figured out two things that has helped my lip heal and it is almost back to normal. I use toothpicks after every meal and then leave it in my mouth. My wife told me the toothpick could be on my lip too much and I denied it, but then she caught me with the toothpick on the crack a couple of times and I realized I really did have that toothpick in my mouth a lot. They say a pipe can cause lip cancer from hanging in the same spot, so the toothpick was probably irritating my sensitive chapped dry lips.
Then we read that camphor, menthol or other common ingredients in carmex and chapsticks are not good for lips, but vitamin E, vaseline, shea butter, beeswax, lanolin or dimethicane were more beneficial. We went to the store 3 days ago and found "Neosporine Lip Health" in a tube. It had all good ingredients- no alcohol, camphor or menthol. It has been improving and the crack is gone. The lip is scarred but healing well and should be completely healed in a few days. I also still use toothpicks but do not leave them in my mouth for the evening.

just start wearing a little bit of chapstick when your lips feel chapped, it will heal overtime. it's annoying, but be patient and keep your lips moisturized

You might be very dehydrated due to the dry mouth. i suggest you have some liquid and also vaseline works great with chap lips, if chapstick had not worked....

You could have a cold sore! Try "Abreva" you think you do (does it have a scab over it?).. Abreva speeds up the healing time like nothing else!
