Is it because of the U.S and French rivalry or because the french cars couldn't compete with the Japanese ones?

Go in Europe and not just in France and you`ll see Peugeots. And you know why? Because they look great, they drive great and they`re not pieces of junk. Peugeot and Citroen make the most beautiful cars at that price. Expensive? You don;t know what you`re talkin about, you get a BM for twice the price of a Peugeot (and it`s no big deal in quality). Why they left US? BECAUSE US LIKES SUVS AND BIG UGLY CARS THATZ WHY. Yeah yeah yeah, when they left they had stupid uncharming cars, but now they`ve changed.
Why I am trying to teach Americans that they`re not the only habitants of this planet? And yes, did you know that the Pontiac G6 is based on a platform that was used on the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra for 5-6 years... guess not.

They weren't selling. It had nothing to do with politics. But, Peugeot has some plans in the works to come back the States by 2010, but I doubt it will actually happen. Renault, however (their other French friend) is coming back for sure in 2009-2011.

Among other theories, poorly trained, incompetent dealers added to Peugeot's demise in the USA, as well as a lack of suitable product.

Ok, the real reason as seen from a thirty year car industry guy: Peugeots are overpriced, underpowered, undependable pieces of French made sh*t.
(no, really)

Because they suck. And the americans figured that out.

Lets see, you can buy a Honda Accord for 20,000 and never have a problem. Or buy a POS peugeot for 25,000 and it needs tons of visits to the deal (if you can find one).
