If you have been feeling sad for a long time this is a serious symptom of depression. If this is true seek psychiatric help. It doesn't make you look bad. It helps you.
But if you have been sad for just a few days, do something for someone else. Get active in a community service. Get out of the dark and into the light. Sunshine actually helps moods.

Sadness and happiness is a state of the mind. Change your mind change your life. Mind over matter. If you dont mind it doesnt matter. You can change your default mindset. Your default now is set to sadness or thinking about things that make you sad. Think of it as a monster, these thoughts that make you sad. Everytime you catch him attacking you, identify him, identify that moment and begin to think positive thoughts. Consiously learn to think progressive and positive thoughts so when it attacks you subconsiously you can use the consious routine to counter it.

For a quick fix, turn on your most favorite, happy music that's cheerful, and then drink soda or eat candy or chocolate or something! That always always works for me. If you want a long term fix, exercise a lot so then you'll not feel so depressed so often! Also dancing crazily to the music will make you feel great if you just let yourself go.

True happiness begins with thinking and doing for others. Get out and do something positive with your life and you won't have time to dwell on sadness.
