Saddle bags or a backpack

I used a bunge net that you can get from most motorcycle shops. It's only good for light packages though just like bunge cords. I got hard bags on my bike now so that works well as long as I can get the item into the box. If the package is to big or to heavy you're better off taking a car. Last thing you want is for the package to fall off.

My top choice would be a helmet net and extra bungee cords always come in handy too. There's not much you can't carry with a net and a few sets of cords. And a backrest or sissy bar are essential for securing items if a rack is not used. Of course a set of saddle bags helps too if you are traveling and need to pack more stuff.

If you really want to secure it, get a rachet tie down strap like the kind they use to secure refrigerators to dollies.

The ratchetting and compression of your luggage will immobilize it on your passenger seat area.

Bunjee cords are only good at low speeds. They also decay and break all the time.

Always have a backup strap secured in case one breaks.

There are lots of options including different luggage and bungee nets. This site basically lists the pros & cons of all of them:
