Your confusing heritage with ethnicity.
And people discuss their American heritage all the time. Any time someone speaks of the history of slavery, or of what their parents/grandparents did during WWII, or what they did at Thanksgiving years ago they are discussing their American heritage.
The US has been around for more than two centuries, and was settled by Europeans and Africans for almost four hundred years. How can you have that length of time, and not have a heritage?

There is a heritage to every American. So yes as an American we have an American heritage. If you are born in America what can you tell me of your heritage in another country? Can you tell me anything about it if you are descended from Africans, Irish, Germans, etc. Can you tell me anything you know about it or are you only relaying what you have been told by people who actually are from these country's? If you are born in America you are of American heritage.

Not technically. But that's my answer when people ask what I am. My lineage has been here since the Mayflower on one side and the other side crossed through Ellis Island. Besides being a Native American Indian, I'm about as American as they come.
The French, Irish, Czech, Canadian, English etc blood I supposedly have has very little to do with who my family really is.
I say I'm American or a Euro Mutt if they get pushy.

The American heritage you are speaking of will not become a heritage until many many many years down the road. The only true American heritage nowadays are the Indians.

America is basically a melting pot for people converging here for better and richer life. The only persons with actual American heritage are the Red Indians.

I think that if you are unhappy you can relocate.
American Heritage is a gift given to us by our ancestors....the ones that came through Eliss Island! They came here with hope not greed....they learned the language....they made an effort to fit into their new country...and they became Americans. No one had to pay for voter ballots in their "native languages".....why do we have voter ballots in 192 languages now? Because recent "Americans" do not want to Melt-In...they want to take over!
PS, Everyone who says American Indians are the only "real Americans" ....I say my ancestors pissed away their claim to being the only Americans.....my ancestors could have wiped out everyone who came to this continent, but they didn't....they were too simple to prevail so now they will just take your money at casinos....dumb people do not deserve to survive and this applies to "Americans" over-whelmed by immigrants. Unless you do something about it then shut up and enjoy the ride!

well if i was a great great great grandkid of geo. washington or abraham lincoln or one of the other US presidents or legends or heros, i'd prolly argue that there IS such a thing.....but as it is, i'm just the bastard great great grand niece of jesse james (seriously, you can' t make that **** up) so i'll probably say it's characteristic of americans NOT to be *fully american* and so in that aspect, being american is more a state of mind than an actual heritage. like say for example somebody in russia who saved all his waitering tips to buy a boat ride over here is more american the day BEFORE boarding than like, the Dixie Chicks are currently, even tho they live here. :) LOL! what a great question.
