In 2004, Williams-BMW was a BMW works team [2][3][4], the same as McLaren-Mercedes is a Mercedes works team.

It was Williams, Juan Pablo Montoya winning his final race for them, the Brazilian GP in 2004, before moving to McLaren.

Williams is a privateer, and most people forget that. McLaren is a half-works team, about to be turned into a Mercedes works team.
If McLaren were a privateer, I would have said that a private team's last victory was the Japan GP, 2005, won by Kimi Raikkonen.
