nobody can take credit away from cristiano ronaldo for his amazing ball skills and sensational solo runs that often eat up the length of the field.
but taking a closer look as to how many of them have ended in the opponents nets leaves one dissapointed.
i would rather its a case of a contorted attitude in a person with immense talent and potential.
take for example the 2006 FIFA world cup. how many goals were scored off ronaldo's passes? none.
and the only one he scored was off a penalty!!
cristiano ronaldo often forgets that soccer is a team game and the ultimate objective is to score goals. i agree with those who are of the view that if you play the game, then play beuatifully - joga bonita!
i guess all the sheen is lost if you are dispossessed often in your solo runs or if you cap a spectacular run with a mispass. i would rather watch a 'defensive' match rather than a match with more than four fruitless 'runs' by cristiano ronaldo.
all this was amply illustrated in the portugal germany third place match where ronaldo after a zigzag run made a back pass without looking in that direction which was a bit too long for the defender, and germany almost made a goal out of that pathetic piece of 'skills'.
if you check the efficiency quotient of the player on the field and value it more than the 'wow' effect that he brings, ronaldo would never make it to your list of favourite players.

Well, to me its quite clear. Cristiano Ronaldo is a waste of talent. Granted that he can do a million stepovers without stopping and keep his balance, and can perform feats with the ball that not many others can..............but there is a difference between trickery and efficient trickery. For example.... we have all seen Zidane do magical turns with the ball to get past 3 defenders. There the tricks help to accomplish a purpose...getting past defenders to feed the ball to the strikers.
How many times have we seen Cristiano Ronaldo go down the flank,find a defender facing him, perform 5 stepovers and then try to cross the ball into the box,but it the defender blocks it.What purpose does that achieve??????When he plays he is also extremely selfish and often goes for a difficult long range shot than pass the ball to a striker who is free in the box. Apart from his occasional wonder goals,whichever team he plays with would probably be better off with an efficent crosser like Arjen Robben.
Cristiano Ronaldo has talent but he needs someone like Zidane to get his attitude and behaviour on the pitch straightened out.

am not a Man U fan either a Portugues but christaina Ronaldo is one of the Best Player of all time; he is been underutilised in Man u; well that is Ferg's way of doing things; i wish we had him in chelsea then the world will know that a Maesto of tricks have arrived; No matter the role he played in World cup English Fan should forgive him it is part of football but alas Ronnney Can not smell him in Skills and Confidence so thats for Truth u can even ask Zidane, Pele and Maradona. so u critic i saw on this page Pls shut up your trap cos u are not being sincere it is your Problem; i hope he leaves Man u cos if he is becoming Big Ferg will Chase him away the way he did Becks, Stamp and Ruud. i do think Cristiano Ronaldo is a very good player, but sometimes can be over-estimated. one thing i know for sure is that he can get quite aggressive when things dont go his way.
