Pantyliners are thinner and smaller than regular pads. They do have super absorbent ones, but if you want something thicker, get "overnight" or "maternity" pads. These will generally be wider, and longer from front to back, helping to avoid leaks.
There's no way to tell when your friends will get their periods. Each person is different. However, if they begin to notice changes in their bodies, such as breast development, pubic/underarm hair, underarm perspiration, etc. these are signs of puberty, and a good indication that your period will be coming before long.
One thing to make sure, if you or your friends decide to use tampons, be careful to change them often. If you don't, they can cause infection, and even worse, a very serious illness called Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). I'd say it's a good idea to wait to use tampons until you're very comfortable with having your period and used to dealing with all that comes with it.
Also, keep in mind now that you are getting periods, if you become sexually active, YOU CAN BECOME PREGNANT. There's a lot to keep in mind and a lot of responsibility that comes with womanhood!
Enjoy this part of growing up, but don't be in too much of a hurry to grow up entirely!
Take care!

The best pad I have ever used is always maxi pads they are very absorbent and I think they are the best ones to use, panty liners are for everyday use or when u have light bleeding. Tampons are for girls or women who have already experience sex so stay away from these if u are a virgin. If u get moody or have pain take midol try and relax when your on your dot as we call it, I would some times say It was not a dot more like a river. I hope this info has helped u I have a 15 year old daughter so I know how it is.

Panty liners are not designed to absorb the amount of liquid that comes when you get your period. They might work for a while in the beginning but as you mature, there will be more "output" and it just won't cover that. When you are ovulating (about 2 weeks before the period actually comes), the body starts to secrete a clear, stringy fluid which your underwear will need to be protected from. That's why they have panty liners.
Maxi pads are designed for a larger amount of fluids. Selection is up to the user. Personally, I like the big and bulky kinds of pads like Always or Kotex original styles. Some women don't like feeling like they have a diaper on so they choose the ultra light, ultra thin versions. It's all up to you and your comfort level.

overnight pads are the thickests and offer the most protection, other than tampons. other pads that are good are those with wings or walls on them to help stop leaks.some of the thinner pads are more comfortable, and less bulky. I would aviod pads and such with heavy prefumes, they can cause irritaion. A panty liner is a very thin pad used to protect your painties when using tampons, or when your period is light. If you are comfortable using tampons there are some made for teens that are slimer. if you have tampons in right you cant feel them. also some women feel less cramps with tampons.

an always or kotex maxi is what i would recommend-they are very breathable and don't make you feel like you're wet. A panty liner is for very light discharge or spotting or to protect against leaks when wearing a tampon. They are very, very thin and will not provide much protection on their own. I would recommend using tampons-they make ultra slim ones for young girls like you that aren't so difficult to insert. It took me several months after I started to get brave enough to use the tampons but i promise you, the first time you want to go swimming and you're on your period-tampons will be extremely convenient plus they don't make you feel like you're wearing a diaper for one week out of every month. As far as your friends, i don't know your age but most girls start between 10-14. Also, one thing you must keep in mind from now on(once again, i do not know how old you are) is that you are able to get pregnant from here on out if you have sex so be very careful.

Women use panty liners with tampons..It's because the tampon is suppose to soak up the blood but in case of leaks the panty liner will catch it alot of women cant use tampons though so they use regular pads witch the have for different flows like Regular,Light, medium, and heavy they have all different kinds Stay-free,kotex some like that...good luck..

just depends on how much you bleed, liners are for spotting, pads are for reg. periods, and you just have to try differnt ones, I used the ones that come in their own pink wrapper from wall mart and they are cheaper also- to each his own=usually the last few days a panty liner works good

i like always because they are thin- a pantyliner is a small , thin pad that does not absorb much but can be used in case you may be getting your period or if you are wearing a tampon , pads are thicker and longer - overnight pads may be a good choice for you - It takes a while to find a favorite brand - good luck to you

the best pad to use is stayfree four wall protection Without deoderant {the deoderant mixed with your own smell is sickining}} everything without four wall protection and i leak all over the place and the four wall protection keeps it from bunching and driving me crazy and having to reajust alot also theyer cotton textured and so the ones that arnt they feel kinda plasticy and i swear that when i pull my panties down to go they stick to my skin a little and it feels like it rips at least a layer of skin off.! ouch!
