The best president was Abraham Lincoln, hands down. After Lincoln was Thomas Jefferson. JFK was a good prez too, because he made an effort to do a few truly good things, which is why he was killed.

All these anwers saying Bill Clinton are people under 30 years of age who know nothing about history, and have only memories of him and George Bush II. Bill Clinton, the best democrat the republicans ever had, was a self serving, oversexed, silver tongued, mouthpiece for the status quo. He proffered zero original initiatives, and has been undeservedly given credit for occurences which happened while he was in office. (I have to confess to voting for him the first time around.)

In memory, Bill Clinton, he ran the country well and left it in good shape. I am 60 so my memory goes back to Eisenhower. He was the last great president in my memory.
