Try magazines. Here are some of the websites for my favorite ones that cater to different sorts of racing:
Grassroots Motorsports http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/ Covers ammatuer road racing, rally racing, and autocross. One of the more "serious" magazines - it gives a lot of ink to real race cars instead of show cars.
Sport Compact Car http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/ A magazine that mostly covers imports, with a lot of good technical information.
Car Craft http://www.carcraft.com Focuses on American V8 power and going fast on a low budget. Probably one of the most overtly about street racing.
Sometimes magazines will overhype things - I've tried to present some of the more hype-free ones, but even so, the cars there often are built by pros who know what they are doing, and home-built efforts to copy them sometimes fall short. I'd suggest paying a few visits in person to the local dragstrip. There you'll get to see how fast cars are in the real world - anybody who thinks his cold air intake and exhaust will give him 60 more horsepower is going to find out just what they really are good for when the light turns green.

on your yahoo search engine..type racing...or street racing and you should find a vast amount of information there..and you could pick up magazines too
